Plant Spirit Sister Circle: Blue Lotus (Nymphaea caerulea)

Gathering at the recently reopened Magictown Movement Studio located on the island in the river in Downtown Marshall, we’ll journey with the sacred ancient medicine of blue lotus (Nymphaea caerulea).

Universally symbolic of rebirth and renewal, lotus feels like a profound medicine to work as a community as we emerge from the destruction of Hurricane Helene. Our gathering will begin with a tea ceremony and sound meditation, followed by a learning and sharing circle, and (weather permitting) a walk down to the river for a water blessing ritual.

Offered by donation, $22-44 suggested. Please reach out if a financial investment is prohibitive and you’d like to arrange other reciprocity.

***These circles are open to all women—cis, trans & femme folk.***

Space is limited—RSVP soon to save your spot!

A water lily native to North and East Africa, blue lotus once grew prolifically in the Nile Delta and in temple ponds throughout Ancient Egypt where she was revered and used for ritual and medicinal purposes. These days, blue lotus is found throughout the Middle East and Asia, and due to a recent surge in popularity, sustainable cultivation of blue lotus is on the rise.

Like other water lilies, blue lotus emerges from the murky, primordial waters once a year to bloom for only 3-5 days. She rises with the sun and retreats back into the water as the sun sets, symbolizing life’s eternal cycle of renewal. In many cultures, the lotus flower is associated with creation, death, rebirth, wisdom, enlightenment and the feminine.

Blue lotus has become quite trendy in recent years, thanks to her calming, mood-enhancing, mild psychoactive properties. Modern research has identified two alkaloids, nuciferine and aporphine, that may play a role in her euphoria-inducing effects. Nuciferine acts as a dopamine receptor blocker, while aporphine acts as a dopamine agonist that activates dopamine receptors, contributing to an uplifted and connected feeling. These effects may also help explain why blue lotus has long been considered an aphrodisiac and an ally for lucid dreaming.

Join us for this grounded, experiential deep dive into the magic and medicine of blue lotus!

Rooted & Resilient: A 6-Week Series to Nourish Your Nervous System

Join experienced yoga teachers Allison Welder and Mina Isabel Shahriary for a six-week deep dive into tending your nervous system through the lens of yoga. Drawing on multiple wisdom traditions and modern polyvagal theory, we’ll explore powerful self-care practices that can help support a healthy, resilient nervous system. In the process, we’ll connect and co-regulate together in community.

Each class will begin with a simple tea ceremony, brief connection circle, guided meditation and somatic movement. We’ll continue with a learning & discussion circle followed by a gentle 30 to 45-minute practice. Class will end with deep relaxation accompanied by healing sound, stone medicine, and/or marma point massage.

Over the six weeks, you will gather a toolkit of simple and effective self-care practices you can use—and share with others—to help calm, nourish and restore balance in your nervous system.

Sundays, 1:00 - 3:30 PM
February 16th - March 23rd
